July Beckons - Anime Expo 2011

I haven't been to AX since 2007 when Aya Hirano was a guest of honor. That was when she was cool. Now, not so.

ANYWAYS, I'm definitely going, but at it currently stands, it's only for one day. Hopefully my buddy ephC pulls through with a room, so I can stay all 4 days. I am not spending $40 a day for gas for 4 days >.<

I'm doing a simple cosplay of Jonathan from MGS4, complete with mohawk. However, since weapons have been heavily banned in AX, I'm just bringing a watergun. Hopefully they have a rifle-sized one that looks decent, like these:
or

If I actually gave it more thought and knew I was going way before during the $60 passes, I would have done better cosplays. I was thinking Matsushita 5th Dan from Angel Beats. Recently, I also thought about cosplaying as Garen, but I need hair for that XD

EDIT: Due to my hard drive being a bitch and basically bottlenecking all of my applications, I am getting said hard drive at the cost of AX.

Free2Play Games - Why only 1 or 2 are worthy

Free2Play games have been plagued with a ton of problems, with most of it involving a solution to revenues on a free game. Here's a list of different reasons why I don't play a lot of F2P anymore, and most of them involve MONEY.

1. Cash shop imbalances - Let's see... Combat Arms, Wolfteam, Perfect World, Flyff. These four games are notorious for making you buy the best gear in the game with real-money currency. Sure, on an FPS game if you are good enough, that means you can just use a mediocre gun and be good. BUT, what if someone who could do the same uses these cash shop weapons that no regular ingame shop weapons could match? There's always been this stupid idea the developers use to make revenue. Alliance of Valiant Arms still allows you to buy weapons with Gcoin, but aside from the novelty capsule weapons, you are able to actually buy them with ingame Euros and the appropriate rank (whereas Gcoin weapons are usable at Rank 1). Of course, the downside to that is you cannot sell GCoin weapons (not that you want to anyways, since 10% is a fairly low return).

2. Cheating - This is the biggest issue in F2P games. There's either a blatant hacker, or people ingame are creating paranoia of said hacking. This makes every other noob and their mother scream HAX like they were about to throw their monitors at someone, whenever a good player rolls their face with the most mediocre weapon. Also, the anti-cheat systems on these Korean-based games are below subpar. No, really. In Korea, it's a felony to hack even in a video game. You will get some jail time plus you are banned from PCbangs (LAN Centers), especially because your account requires a KSSN. In Japan, it's just part of their culture to play as fair as possible.

3. Gameplay - Games like Vindictus have amazing graphics, but the gameplay is bland and repetitive, and with only 3 characters to choose from, it's very stale. Then there are games like AVA that have great weapon balancing for the most part, but is plagued by item #2. Upcoming games like APB try to limit your weapons and customization levels in an attempt to fish some money out of you. Many more are just poor clones of each other. Some even go to a point of almost mimicking a game. 4Story (Gates of Andaron) and Runes of Magic are total clones of World of Warcraft in terms of the UI and some gameplay mechanics.

Seriously, I think one of the few games that try their best NOT to jump into these mistakes is League of Legends. Runes make your champs more powerful early game and sometimes mid game, and you can only buy them with IP. Of course, you can buy IP boosts, but it's totally optional. I have 3 complete runebooks and it only took a couple of weeks of playing about 2-4 matches average a day. Champs are buyable through IP or RP. Skins are there for vanity, and some people like them enough to purchase one or two. Alliance of Valiant Arms comes in a close second, but they sort of break item #1 with the FG42 and Sidewinder and item #3 with the SPAS-15.

Theorycrafting: Vayne - The Night Hunter

Night Hunter (Passive): Vayne ruthlessly hunts evil-doers. She gains bonus Movement Speed when moving toward nearby enemy champions.
Great passive, allowing you to chase almost anyone down, especially if you take ghost.

Tumble: Vayne tumbles, maneuvering to carefully place her next shot. She rolls toward the cursor and her next attack deals bonus damage.
A low cooldown skill, though this is your initiate/escape skill. You gain bonus damage scaling off your AD which increases every rank. Max this second.

Silver Bolts: Vayne tips her bolts with a rare metal, toxic to evil things. The third consecutive attack or ability against the same target deals a percentage of the target's maximum Health as bonus true damage. (Max damage vs. Monsters is capped)
Your bread and butter skill, and one reason a full AS Vayne with one or two AD items is very viable. 8% true damage based on max health every second is devastating when you're AS-capped at 2.5. Max this first.

Condemn: Vayne draws a heavy crossbow from her back, and fires a huge bolt at her target, dealing damage and knocking them back. If they collide with terrain, they are impaled, dealing bonus damage and stunning them.
This is your main CC, but it is highly terrain-dependent. It is reminiscent of Poppy's Heroic Charge, except in ranged form. Like Tristana's ult, you can also use this to escape. The cooldown and mechanics of this skill means you get to use it once in a teamfight, and maybe another time for when you're chasing. Max this last.

Final Hour (Ultimate): Readying herself for an epic confrontation, Vayne gains increased Attack Damage, stealth during Tumble, and quadruple the bonus Movement Speed from Night Hunter.
A bit lackluster, but great for chasing. Learning how to use the stealth mechanic (a VERY short stealth period) will allow you to juke or even close the gap safer when ganking. As with any other ultimate, max this ASAP.

Masteries
21/0/9, skipping Lethality as your main source of damage is proc-ing Silver Bolts as much as possible.

Runes
Greater Marks of Desolation
Greater Seals of Alacrity
Greater Glyphs of Alacrity
Greater Quintessence of Fortitude OR Desolation

Core Items
Phantom Dancer
Frozen Mallet
Recurve Bow (Build into Madreds or Starks, depending on what the team needs)

Default Build - Leaguecraft Vayne Builder

Reasoning:
Cloak and Dagger - allows you to have CC reduction, while maintaining your attack speed.
Berserker Greaves - with the release of the Tenacity stat, there's no reason to always stick with Merc Treads, unless the enemy team is AP-heavy.
Phantom Dancer - Even though Vayne gets a movespeed bonus from her passive, this allows her to gank better, and help her reposition faster. Also, the AS bonus is always welcome.
Madred's Bloodrazor - AS and a bit of armor. Plus, the bonus magic damage doesn't hurt either.
Frozen Mallet - Increases her ganking/chasing ability.
Banshee's Veil - Well, duh, best item in the game.

Viable Items:
Mercury Treads - AP-heavy teams.
The Bloodthirster - Mid/Late-game lifesteal

The Black Cleaver - Though she doesn't need the armor reduction, it's still a DPS increase.
Sword of the Divine - For dodge-happy champs
Stark's Fervor - If your team needs it, replacement for Madred's
Wriggle's Lantern - Early game lifesteal
Quicksilver Sash - Situational. If there's a Vlad/Malz/Morde/Warwick or any other champion with a troublesome DoT/CC, get this. Replacement for Banshee's Veil.

Monster Hunter: Why I hate Rathalos/Rathian

Yeah... Los and Ian. Two of my archenemies in MHP3rd. Seriously, they are annoying. They both have disgustingly powerful poison moves, and apparently, you can't dodge Los' without sheathing.

1. Poison Attacks. These HURT. BAD. The ticks on it are damn chunky, so if you don't chug an Antidote quick, expect a kitty cart.
2. Rage Mode. I had a lot of trouble killing them because of rage mode. Even with Auto-Guard on my GL, it's still a pain. On my LBG, you can almost never dodge them if you're too close, and I mean about 4 rolls away. They just charge you really quickly.
3. Flying. THEY FLY TOO MUCH.
4. Item drops. Really? 2-4% on plates? I got an Ian plate, but I am still trying to get a Los plate. The drop rates are so terrible even when I break every single breakable part.

So, I've been doing some counting on Twitter, and I'll put those updates here as well.

Oh, and expect some individual pages to come up in a bit.

Attempt #1 - NO CIGAR. Got some Monster Fluid and Monster Bone+, as well as a good amount of scales.

Attempt #2 - NO CIGAR. Leggings are done. At a mere 2-4% drop, I think I'll need something with Cutter S, or melee it up.

Attempt #3 - NO CIGAR. Los LBG is complete, and will now move on for a bit to Barioth and get Cutter S.

Attempt #4 - NO CIGAR. However, I managed to get a tail cut with Cutter S. This shit has such short range, though.

Attempt #5 - NO CIGAR. Maybe I should get off Island and do it in Volcano?

Attempt #6 and #7 - NO CIGAR. Need another Rathalos Tail for GL upgrade, though. Razor Coats useless. Stick to Cutter S.

Attempt #8 - NO CIGAR. Did get a Los Tail, though, so I now have my Los GL.

Attempt #9 and #10 - NO CIGAR. Tried GS and GL again. Few rewards. ;w; #monsterhunter

Broken or OP? A MHP3 Insight

I don't want a flame war here. Only civil discussions are allowed here.

So in MHP3, Dragon S went from mediocre to OP, given the right armor skills and weapon. Because it scaled with your weapon's raw + elemental, it's almost as if it always had Elemental Atk Up, even if you don't have the armor skill. I've been hearing things about how 21 shots out of 23 were enough to kill Akantor, though all shots were weakpoint hits. Still, it's pretty bad.

Then there's the Gunlance + auto-guard argument. I personally use Auto-Guard, but using it with a Gunlance is so... glitchy. With a lance, SnS, or GS, it only activates if you are not attacking while unsheathed, kinda like the HBG shield attachment. With the GL, there are so many animations that trigger it, mainly reloading. People tend to abuse the new single shot reload (Pressing circle to shoot then circle again after to reload a single shell) with this system, and it's been frowned upon by others.

I personally don't care if you use both of them, though if you start gloating about how good you are with these, I'm going to kick you in the crotch so hard your future children would feel it. That's like putting a "I'M SO GUD" video on Modern Warfare 2 with you sitting in a corner lobbing Danger Close noobtubes to anyone who gets near, while reloading with One Man Army. It kills people, yes, but it's the biggest target for troll and flame hammers.
